Holden was born November 25th2016 and gave us a huge surprise with his birth diagnosis. Two years later, we cannot imagine Holden being anyone besides his happy little self. He is the most smiley, happy go lucky, curious little boy who loves getting into anything he shouldn’t with a big ol’ proud smile on his face. He loves reading books, kissing his sister Hazel, and giving us massive hugs and big kisses. His favorite movie is Coco, he loves to dance anytime music comes on, and absolutely enjoys being a pet owner. He has our kitty cat and our dog Wyatt wrapped around his cute 2yr old finger. He absolutely digs the water and could swim in Lake Michigan all day every day if we let him- pulling him out of the water when it is time to go is by far the meanest thing we could ever do to him (life as a parent, am I right?). Keeping up with his 6 older cousins has been a huge motivation for him and we can only imagine how this drive will help him grow into who he is meant to be as an adult.
Medically, Holden has been a pretty lucky little boy. Our only issues at birth were low oxygen and platelets, which have both worked themselves out. At 6 months old, Holden was diagnosed with Infantile Spasms. Luckily for us, two other moms in our DsUpNorth community encouraged us to take Holden to a children’s ER immediately, where he was quickly diagnosed and responded to treatment extremely well (huge loving hugs to Missy Smith and Kelly Hall). He is now over a year and a half seizure free, moving around on his own, learning to walk, has over 10 words he choses to only use when he feels like it, and shows an enormous amount of compassion and love.
Our Holden man shows us what we are truly living for- our kids, being kind, and showing acceptance to anyone who is different that than us. Thanks for being our secret to life little man! Xoxo
Side note- yes we know standing in a cart is not very safe and he was told to sit down immediately but..come on, he is so darn proud he can pull himself to stand, how could we not let him bask in it for just a few seconds!
